Burning Eye will be taking part in Free Verse – The Poetry Book Fair on Sept 8th, in London. The largest event of its kind in the UK to date, Free Verse 2012 celebrates the quality, range and excitement of contemporary poetry by presenting the work of 50 publishers – from Scotland, Wales and Belgium as well as England – direct to the general public. The fair will feature:

  • Publishers ranging from the long-established and well-known to the brand new, and include many that have survived for decades with little public recognition
  • Books and pamphlets both traditional and innovatory in practice and production
  • Readings (free) through the day by poets including: Burning Eye poet Ash Dickinson, Roz Kaveney, Luke Kennard,Glyn Maxwell, Denise Saul, Sudanese poet Al-Saddiq Al-Raddi and many others, including showcases from publishers based in Manchester, Yorkshire, Brighton and further afield
  • Workshops (in association with the Poetry School) tutored by Nancy Campbell and Daljit Nagra
  • National poetry organisations participating include the Poetry Archive, the Poetry Book Society,
  • the Poetry Society and the Poetry Translation Centre
  • Rare editions of books published by the Gaberbocchus Press (1948–79) on sale, including titles by Alfred Jarry, Raymond Queneau, Kurt Schwitters, Stevie Smith
