The Hip Yak Poetry Shack is famed for it’s wonderful stage and presence each year at WOMAD UK and run by our good friend, poet and freelancer Liv Torc. Next year, Liv is embarking on a new ACE funded scheme that will be sure to enliven the poetry scene in the south west and beyond!
The Hip Yak Poetry School will run for a weekend in May and will facilitate 39 successful applicants for ‘all in it together’ accommodation or camping. A full programme of events, live streamed debate and a walking theatrical journey through the woods to meet famous dead poets. The chance to be taught and mentored by some of the most inspiring and successful spoken word poets in the country (and the world). All in a beautiful, ramshackle, woodland retreat in Shropshire – with real owls, yurts, fires, showers, sauna and some very relaxing yoga.
What are they looking for?
The retreat is aimed at active and professional spoken word artists and poets, which means those who have toured events and festivals, maybe have a collection or one coming out. This school is for those who are past the ’emerging’ stage of their careers.
Cost?
If you are successful the cost is £200 for everything, and £125 if you are on a low income. There are also two full bursary spaces available.
The Hip Yak Poetry School is sponsored by Burning Eye, Apples and Snakes, The Poetry Takeaway, Tart Art and Literature Works.
