It’s that time again! Open submissions for our 2022 poetry list!
Every two years we open our submissions up to everyone because we like to discover poets from regions far from us that are doing brilliant things. Our open submissions window is for 2022 which might seem like a a long time but if 2020 taught us anything, it’s that time is slippery!
Our submissions window is open to any active performance / slam / stand up / spoken word poet active in the UK. Our submissions policy will tell you that we accept submissions from any background, religion, race, sexuality and gender and we take a dim view on poems that discriminate in any way (especially for humour) so please bare that in mind. (yes, we’re still having to explicitly say that.) We live in a time where you must stand up for what you believe in, and we stand for dignity and equality for all.
To submit please click here to be redirected to our google form submission sheet. Fill out each section and send us a word doc or PDF of your poems (10 for a pamphlet, 20 for a full collection). We recommend reading this handy guest blog by 2020 poet Laurie Eaves on putting together a first collection and taking a look at our web store to see the range of poets we have published previously. We look for individuality and dedication. Producing a collection of poetry takes time and commitment so be prepared and sure of your work!
We are not charging a submission fee, but ask that you tell us what you’re favourite Burning Eye title is.
If you have any questions, or cannot use or access google forms for any reason please email Bridget Hart submissions@burningeye.co.uk. Submissions close on 28th February at 11.59pm.
Very best of luck, and a happy new year.
Clive Birnie & Bridget Hart
